Fontana Font Format Policy

We present the Fontana OpenType collection, a complete package of OpenType fonts, enabling the user to do things impossible in PostScript or TrueType. OpenType comes with universal system compatibility, support for a variety of languages, but, most of all, with a broad scope of typographic features. Each individual OpenType font contains all the relevant data. The outlines, measurements, and bitmap data are now contained in a single file, which can be installed on both Apple Macintosh and Windows PC platforms. This guarantees that documents created in an application can be transferred across platforms without problems.

OpenType (.otf) is a cross-platform font format that allows for advanced typesetting features and expanded character sets for alternate glyph selections and automated settings for expert ligatures, small caps, old style figures and more. While the Mac OS X, Windows XP, and Windows 2000 operating systems provide native rendering support for the Opentype format, advanced feature support is handled only by the specific application. Please refer to your application's documention to learn about its OpenType compatibility. Even if advanced OpenType support is not offered by your application, the font will continnue to provide the most basic functionality and character set.
